Obsession or Healthy Hobby?
Where does ones obsession of Early Model Commodores come from? Maybe a family member had one while you were growing up, or maybe you had one as your first car, or maybe you fell in love with the VB to VK model, just like I did.

My obsession began when I moved to Melbourne five years ago and my former housemate introduced me to his VH SLE which had an injected 304ci Holden V8 and rolled on VE GTS rims. The look. The sound. The way it would easily turn the tyres had me hooked and I had to have one.
A few weeks later I purchased my first Holden VB Commodore from an older gentleman for $500. It had some rust but, at the time, I had to have it. So began the frenzy of spending nearly all my hard earned dollars on my First Gen. Now I wasn't on the best income with my job. I had to get creative. Unlike some people who can purchase the latest rims or the biggest motor just to beat their friends at the local meet, I had to build my ride on a budget.

The thing about first gen owners is that they want the best of the best when it comes to building their pride and joy, building with their wallets. Which I don't understand the need or passion for. Some owners, however, save for weeks and weeks just to get the Holly Carby for the 308ci V8 in their VL Commodore, living off packets of '2 Minute Noodles' for those weeks, just to build something himself he's had since he was 16 years old. Is that being too obsessed with your car?

Our Grandparents did it with their the classics like HK Monaros and GTHO Falcons, now look what they are worth today. Better yet, try and buy one cheaper than the valuehouse. So who's to say your VB won't become a great classic like its for the fathers of the GM Community. Look after them and take pride in the work you put into it. You may have just saved an icon in automotive history.
Till next time...
Rusty
